One Step at a time

So it is International Women’s Day today and every year I am blown away by the support and outpouring of emotion that it inspires. Browsing instagram this morning was a sea of love and celebration of women and it made me feel really genuinely uplifted. It reminded me of a school project I completed about The Suffraggettes and Emmeline Pankhurst and my horror on discovering the suffering they were willing to put themselves through fighting for women’s right to vote. So today I am celebrating women’s achievements – women like Emmeline but also of all the women I am lucky enough to have in my life in particular my two girls Lauren and Millie who amaze me everyday.

I also want to celebrate my own achievements even if it does feel a bit cringeworthy. I am constantly reminding myself that it is ok to take tiny steps towards my goals, it is the only way to progress and hopefully one day I will feel like a fully fledged artist and successful print designer and wonder what I was faffing about doing for so long and what on earth I was worried about.  I just need to make sure I don’t keep changing the goal posts and remember the original goals – I have heard many a successful person say that you need to keep reviewing and remembering how far you have come.

This week was progress though – I delivered some original artworks and prints to our local creative cheerleader, the shop Maggie J & co, on Tring high street.  Jess is the most lovely, supportive and hilarious person to go in and chat to so always good for a catch up.  I left her with these collections and some mother’s day prints – all quite different in style I know!  I’m definitely still finding my niche and unique art style.  It is a work in progress refining my style…watch this space.

Happy Mothers Day for Sunday – I hope you have a good day regardless of whether you are a mum, have a wonderful mum, have a strained relationship with your mum or have lost your mum.  Putting aside the commercial tackiness I always like to think of these days as an opportunity (and a reminder) to spend some time appreciating or remembering those people and reflecting on who and what is important to us.  Daily life is such a whirlwind it is good to slow down for 5 minutes to show our gratitude.

This week I also painted a floral piece as a mother’s day commission – I feel so appreciative of that opportunity and grateful for that trust bestowed on me.  I really hope she likes it and you do too.

Have a wonderful week, see you again next Friday.

With love,
